The Coros Watch Has Received a Number of New Features That I Have Long Dreamed Of

Coros, the maker of great running watches that rival Garmin in functionality and accuracy , has announced a number of updates that include voice alerts, in-app workout plans, and the ability (finally!) to change the number of reps in a strength workout right from the watch. Here are the highlights:

Libraries of training plans and workouts in the app

Coros offers pre-made training plans for a variety of goals, like running your first marathon or running a 5K in 25 minutes. But until recently, you couldn’t view or select them in the app.

You can now open the Profile in the Coros app and select the Workout Library or Workout Library to see all of your options. There are separate tabs for official Coros suggestions and My Workouts, which only show the ones you’ve created or saved.

Adjust repetitions directly from the watch

During a strength workout, the Coros watch can count reps, but it doesn’t always do it correctly. With the new update, you can edit the number of reps on the watch immediately after completing a set.

The strength training feature also adds animations for each exercise, but I found that I had to go to the Profile tab in the app and tap Download Now to download the animation files to my device. The watch kindly told me how to do this, but it couldn’t download the files during the workout, so I had to end the workout, download the files, and restart it.

What do you think at the moment?

Voice notifications while running

Previously, Coros watches could make a sound to alert you to an upcoming turn on your route, but unlike Garmin, they didn’t tell you to “turn left.” Now, there are voice alerts for pace, distance, and upcoming turns, as well as nutrition reminders (to remind you to eat during your run) if you’ve enabled them.

Voice alerts, like exercise animations, also require a file download. Go to Profile , select your device, and tap File Downloads to make sure they’ve been added before your run.

The update also adds more workout modes, including yoga and Pilates; an AI-powered chatbot for assistance; alerts when you’re running a route in reverse (and the ability to run it in reverse on purpose); and more, including redesigned controls that are more touchscreen-friendly on touchscreen watches like the Pace Pro .
