New to Prime Day? We’ve got the lowdown on everything you need to know . Sales are accurate at the time of publication, but prices and inventory are always subject to change.
As someone who’s fully immersed in the Apple ecosystem, I naturally prefer the AirPods. But it’s not just that I’m a fan (although I definitely am): AirPods, especially the AirPods Pro 2 , are great earbuds for a lot of reasons. And while they’re usually a bit pricey, that’s not the case today. Amazon is currently running a Prime Day sale for the incredibly low price of $149.
Apple may be slapping the “Pro” moniker on most of its products these days, but the AirPods Pro at least have plenty of features to live up to their name. They may not be aimed at “pros,” but they do have features that other AirPods models don’t.
First off, the AirPods Pro have excellent noise cancellation. Although, to be fair, the silicone tips are tight enough to block out background noise, so I almost never turn on Noise Canceling. What’s more, because they’re so tight, you also get Transparency mode, an option that lets in the sounds around you so you can stay aware of your surroundings — or even have a conversation without taking your earbuds off.
Speaking of conversations, a great feature exclusive to the second-generation Pro is Conversation Awareness: When you start talking while listening to something, your AirPods will turn down the volume and boost the voices of the people you’re talking to. When everyone stops talking, your AirPods will go back to their normal volume. That’s great. Another automatic feature is Adaptive Audio (formerly Adaptive Transparency), which can reduce any sound above 85 dB while keeping other sounds at a normal volume. So you can follow a conversation or even watch TV with your AirPods, but if an ambulance drives by, its siren will seem perfectly tolerable at 85 dB. You’d think these two features would be in the AirPods Max, Apple’s flagship over-ear headphones, but they’re not: You need the second-generation Pros for that.
Like all AirPods, the Pros seamlessly switch between all your connected Apple devices. You can watch a video on your Mac, then take a call on your iPhone and start chatting through your AirPods. If you have an Apple TV, you can also switch to the AirPods, which I often do because I prefer using them to a soundbar.
While all of these features are great, for me it’s all about the sound quality: The Pros sound absolutely amazing, especially for such a compact pair of headphones. And because they block out most of the noise on their own, I can enjoy the quality of my music in a variety of situations. I used to find myself pausing my music on my old AirPods whenever a loud truck or bus passed me. That’s not a problem with the Pros.
Plus, now that the AirPods are FDA-cleared , you can evenuse them as hearing aids . Not a bad perk for $150.

That’s not to say the other AirPods are bad choices: If you don’t like the Pro’s snug fit, you might prefer the more traditional fit of the AirPods 4. They ’re on sale for $119 on Prime Day , or $89 if you go for the non-noise-canceling version. There’s also a discount on the USB-C AirPods Max , which are down from $549 to $429.99. I love my AirPods Max, but they’re hard to recommend given their outrageously high MSRP. These are a little easier to swallow now, especially since they now support lossless audio over a wired connection.
