My Mom Loves Amazon’s Smart Thermometer, and It’s 30% Off on Prime Day

Prime Day 2025 runs from Tuesday, July 8 through Friday, July 11, and Lifehacker is sharing the best sales based on product reviews, comparisons, and price tracking tools.

New to Prime Day? We’ve got the lowdown on everything you need to know . Sales are accurate at the time of publication, but prices and inventory are always subject to change.

In 2015, I accidentally created a serious problem for myself: I gifted my mom a first-generation Amazon Echo, thinking she might like the then-new smart speaker. She certainly did, which meant that for every holiday, birthday, and special occasion over the past decade, I’ve had to find new smart tech to get her. With an Echo in every room, blinds that open and close on their own, smart locks on every door, I was running out of gift options. In December, I stumbled upon an Amazon smart thermostat and promptly got one as a Christmas gift. She’s been enjoying it for months — and now you can, too, because it’s 30% off on Prime Day .

Aside from looking positively sleek and chic on the wall, this thing gives you an easy way to upgrade from a traditional thermostat to a more modern one that can reduce energy use, saving you money. You’ll need an Amazon Echo if you want to give it some voice commands, like “Alexa, turn up the temperature,” but it works just fine without one.

You can set it to automatically switch between temperature preferences. For example, you can make it cooler in the summer when you’re home, but when you’re at work, it can automatically turn off the air conditioner until you return, saving energy consumption and costs. You can also set the desired temperature at a specific time using the Alexa app on your phone, even when you’re not at home.

There’s another helpful way it can save you money: Once you buy it, Amazon will send you an email detailing discounts that may be available from energy providers around you. It’s Energy Star certified, which makes it eligible for a ton of discounts and just generally helps with energy savings.

What do you think at the moment?

Deal

The smart thermostat normally retails for $79.99 (sadly, that’s what I paid in December), but is now on sale for $51.99.

Consider getting Amazon’s Smart Air Quality Monitor , too, because they can work together to detect and eliminate hot or cold spots in your home. This one is 36 percent off, down from $69.99 to $44.99. Honestly, I’ll probably buy one for my mom and just keep it on hand until the next big holiday. (Don’t tell her.)
