New to Prime Day? We’ve got the lowdown on everything you need to know . Sales are accurate at the time of publication, but prices and inventory are always subject to change.
I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. It’s not just where I cook, it’s where I sort through my mail, unpack, and occasionally try my hand at crafting. Since almost everything I do in the kitchen is handmade, having a voice assistant has become a luxury that’s starting to feel like a necessity. Once I learned to yell into the air, “Alexa, how many tablespoons are in half a cup?” or “Alexa, what can I substitute for buttermilk?” I knew I’d never go back to that.
The Echo Hub is a rugged tablet that can serve recipes so you don’t have to print them out or try to fiddle with your phone while you cook. In fact, you can ask Alexa to find a recipe and download it to your tablet.
While I’m working, I use the tablet to stream podcasts, music, movies, and TV shows. The resolution and sound on my Echo Hub are surprisingly better than on my Google tablets, and the screen is also more responsive (though I tend to talk to Alexa instead of scrolling to focus on the task at hand). You can use it for video calls using the “Drop In” feature, and I sometimes call a friend for cooking advice or to chat while I cook.
The Echo Hub is great for the kitchen, but it’s also a smart hub for all the smart devices in my home. I can watch clips from my video doorbell or security cameras, turn on the air conditioner, or just see what’s on and off. The Echo Hub is one of the most useful devices in my home, so much so that I joked about getting one for the bathroom, too. It comes with mounting hardware, so I can mount it anywhere an 8-inch screen will fit.
