Galaxy S25 – a Modest Update to the S24
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is here : specifically, the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra. These three phones replace the equivalent Galaxy S24 models released back in January 2024 , and you can check out our Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra review to remind yourself what we think of them.
Of course, one of the first questions people ask when new phones come out is: How do they compare to last year’s models? The information compiled below will tell you just that, comparing the Galaxy S25 trio to the Galaxy S24 trio in all the key categories that matter, from battery capacity to screen size.
Screen and dimensions
Coming to the sizes and screens of these phones, the Galaxy S25 features a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080, overall dimensions of 146.9 x 70.5 x 7.2 mm and a weight of 162 grams. This screen is exactly the same as the Galaxy S24, but last year’s model is slightly thicker (7.6 mm) and slightly heavier (167 grams).
The Galaxy S25+ features a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440, dimensions of 158.4 x 75.8 x 7.3 mm and a weight of 190 grams. Again, the screen specs are exactly the same as last year, and again, the old S24 Plus is slightly thicker (7.7mm) and slightly heavier (196g).
As for the top-end Galaxy S25 Ultra, it boasts a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen with a resolution of 3120 x 1440, overall dimensions of 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2 mm and a weight of 218 grams. By comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a smaller 6.8-inch screen with the same resolution—it’s also slightly taller (79mm), slightly thicker (8.6mm) and slightly heavier (232g) than the latest model. .
Colors and design
You can get the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ in Silver Shadow, Navy, Iced Blue and Mint, which are a little less inspiring than Onyx Black, Gray Marble, Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, Jade Green, Sandstone Orange and Sapphire. Blue variants of its predecessors (though Samsung may well announce additional colors in the future).
When it comes to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the options you can choose from are Titanium Black, Titanium Grey, Titanium White Silver and Titanium Silver Blue. On the Galaxy S24 Ultra, we’re offering Black Titanium, Gray Titanium, Purple Titanium, Yellow Titanium, Blue Titanium, Green Titanium, and Orange Titanium, but again, stay tuned for more options later.
In terms of design, everything is largely the same as before, although the phones do get some updated camera lens bezels that seem to be inspired by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 . The S25 Ultra has a slightly new look: its corners are more rounded than the S24 Ultra, making it look less like the Note and more like other phones in the series.
Key internal characteristics
All the new Galaxy S25 phones use the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, which should be a step up from the Galaxy S24 series: the 2024 phones use a mix of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and Samsung’s own Exynos 2400, depending on what part of the world where they are sold.
Each Galaxy S25 model comes standard with 12GB of RAM, with the standard S25 available in 128GB and 256GB storage options, and the S25 Plus and S25 Ultra available in 256GB and 512GB. The only difference in this regard from last year’s phones is the Galaxy S24, which comes with 8GB of RAM rather than 12GB.
The battery capacity of the Galaxy S25 phones is the same as the Galaxy S24 phones – 4000 mAh for the standard variant, 4900 mAh for the Plus and 5000 mAh for the Ultra – and the charging speed is also unchanged. You’ll still get 25W wired charging speeds on the standard model and 45W wired charging speeds on the Plus and Ultra phones.
Cameras
With a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera (3x optical zoom) on the back, the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus are exactly the 2024 phones they’re tracking – at least. in hardware, before any additional software processing is taken into account.
As for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, it has a rear camera setup consisting of a 200MP primary camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 10MP telephoto camera (3x optical zoom), and a 50MP telephoto camera (5x optical zoom). The only difference from the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the ultra-wide-angle camera, the resolution of which on the older model is 12 MP.
In terms of front-facing selfie camera, all three Galaxy S25 phones come with a single 12-megapixel camera, which is identical to the Galaxy S24 series in all respects. (The S25 Ultra does have autofocus here, however.) There’s very little choice between the 2024 and 2025 models in terms of cameras, and otherwise the hardware specs are the same except for the updated Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. everything works.
