Samsung Just Announced the Galaxy S25 Series
Samsung Unpacked is around the corner again and like clockwork, Samsung has taken the opportunity to unveil its latest flagship Android phones. This time around, the company is launching the aptly named Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra, perhaps some unsurprising upgrades to the Galaxy S24 series. However, these devices have a number of new features and changes that are worth exploring.
New features of Galaxy AI
As you might expect, Samsung is launching the Galaxy S25 series with new Galaxy AI features . First, there’s Now Brief, which gives you AI-powered summaries of your sleep performance, weather, and daily events. This feature learns your patterns and shows you relevant information over time. Now Brief can be accessed from the lock screen or through a widget on the home screen.
Next up is Cross App Action. This feature allows you to create tasks that you want to complete and the AI will combine those tasks and complete them for you. You can access Cross App Action by pressing and holding the Power button to open Google Gemini.
Automatic Suggestions is another AI-powered feature that provides you with suggestions based on the procedures you have previously used. For example, automatic suggestions might prompt you to run the robot vacuum cleaner when you’re away from home, or open your favorite navigation app when you’re traveling. On the other hand, multimodal search allows you to search for items in different, sometimes unconventional, ways. You can hum a song if you don’t remember its name, then the AI will try to piece it together and find the track.
There’s also an Auto Trim feature that automatically removes unnecessary elements from your videos, such as “ums” and other pauses. You can also use keywords to help the AI determine which clips or sounds should be trimmed. Finally, there’s Audio Eraser, which removes background noise and conversations, and isolates vocals and dialogue in videos shot on your phone.
Characteristics of Galaxy S25
All phones in the Galaxy S25 lineup are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and 12GB of RAM. Compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, the 8 Elite chip delivers 45% faster performance and 44% higher power efficiency thanks to a new 3nm manufacturing process. The new Adreno GPU in the 8 Elite also improves performance by 40%, which can be useful for mobile gaming.
Like previous phones, all three Galaxy S25 models feature a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that supports an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz. All of them are equipped with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, as well as a facial recognition system. Storage options for each include 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The most immediate difference between each device is the display size:
-
Galaxy S25: 6.2-inch display (2340 x 1080)
-
Galaxy S25+: 6.7-inch display (3120 x 1440)
-
Galaxy S25 Ultra: 6.9-inch display (3120 x 1440)
As usual, Samsung uses large batteries in all three devices. The S25 has a 4,000mAh battery, the S25+ has a 4,900mAh battery, and the S25 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery. In terms of charging speed, the S25 supports wired and wireless charging up to 25W. Meanwhile, the S25+ and S25 Ultra support 45W wired charging and 25W wireless charging. All devices support reverse wireless charging using Wireless PowerShare, just like previous Galaxy phones.
It’s worth noting that the Galaxy S25 series does not have Qi2 support, which will bring MagSafe-like charging to Samsung phones. Samsung has stated that some of their official cases for the Galaxy S25 series will have built-in magnets, so they are compatible with magnetic accessories.
Galaxy S25 Cameras
The Galaxy S25 and S25+ feature a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 50MP wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens. Meanwhile, the S25 Ultra features a 200MP wide-angle lens, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and two telephoto lenses – 10MP (3x) and 50MP (5x). All three Galaxy S25 phones have a 12MP front camera, but the Ultra’s front camera comes with autofocus.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite also impacts the performance of these cameras. The new chip can erase unwanted elements from videos using on-device AI processing. It also improves low-light video capture, which should help when shooting video at night.
Colors of the Galaxy S25
The Galaxy S25 and S25+ are available in Silver Shadow, Navy, Ice Blue and Mint colors. If you buy Galaxy online through Samsung, you can also choose Blueblack, Coralred and Pinkgold models.
