Available in black or white, the headset is simple and understated with flat earcups and a subtle embossed Razer logo that’s easy to miss. If you prefer a minimalist aesthetic, this option will suit you. Plus, all the controls and connections are neatly integrated into the left earpiece, from the USB-C charging port to the 3.5mm jack for the detachable boom mic. There’s also a power button to switch between 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth modes, a volume wheel, and a microphone mute switch. It is functional, optimized and easy to navigate.

Comfort is a priority for the Barracuda X : the memory foam earbuds are wrapped in breathable fabric to keep you cool during long gaming sessions, and the padded faux leather headband reportedly fits easily on your head without feeling constricting. In terms of connectivity, it comes with a USB-C wireless dongle that offers compatibility with PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4/5, and Bluetooth-equipped devices. And if you prefer a wired setup, the 3.5mm jack allows for that option as well. In terms of audio (with 40mm drivers and a frequency response of up to 20kHz), it offers excellent sound quality for the price. Bass is reported to be strong, and directional imaging works well, even if it’s not as accurate as higher-end headsets. Plus, the noise-canceling microphone ensures clear communication without distractions.

However, there are a few trade-offs to consider. This headset doesn’t integrate with Razer Synapse software on PC, meaning you won’t get equalizer or the same spatial audio fidelity as Razer’s more expensive models. And while you can enable 7.1 surround sound through a separate app, setup involves creating a Razer account and registering the device. For mobile users, the Razer Audio app offers a basic equalizer but misses out on surround sound simulation, according to this PCMag review . If wireless connectivity isn’t a must, the $59 Astro Gaming A10 is another great budget choice with great sound.
