How to Complete the New Winter Wonder Level in Astro Bot
The holidays are approaching, and with them all kinds of winter updates for your favorite online games. Seasonal events are common in games like Final Fantasy XIV and Fortnite , but recent Game of the Year winner Astro Bot surprises players with an all-new level that’s already becoming a holiday classic.
To reach the level called “Winter Wonder”, you need to put in a lot of effort. Most importantly, you’ll need to complete Astro Bot’s main campaign before you can unlock it, so if you’re new to Sony’s award-winning platformer, be prepared to spend eight to ten hours playing it before you can get into the holiday spirit. .
Once this is done, you will simply need to boot into the main hub of the universe, where you usually access the main areas of the game called galaxies. Very soon you will see a small flying planet wearing a Santa hat. Hit it (if you’re having trouble, use R2 to speed up) and the planet will move to the right side of the screen and transform into the appropriate level. Now just fly over it and press X to start the game.
Once you’re in a level, you’ll be transported to a snowy platforming paradise with 15 gifts, each containing different bots, speeders, and costumes to unlock. I won’t spoil your gifts ahead of time, but even playing as efficiently as possible, it will take you about 15 minutes to get everything. Along the way, you’ll run and jump through gingerbread houses, ball pits full of decorations, candy cane gardens, and fields where robotic deer (and maybe the odd elephant or monkey) graze.
Winter Wonder isn’t the first free post-game level to be added to Astro Bot, having been preceded by five speedrun-focused challenges over the past few months, but it may have the most staying power. The atmosphere here is just perfect and I can easily imagine replicating it becoming a new holiday tradition for some families.
