I’m Always Cold and the Dreo Solaris Is the Best Heater I’ve Tried

Heaters have long played an important role in helping me get through the winter. I had one in my childhood bedroom which had a bad baseboard heating and I still use it in my current flat which has modern central heating and frustratingly high gas bills associated with its use.

Over the years of my life as a person who is always cold, I have used a whole bunch of them. I’ve found many of them to be finicky, loud, or questionably safe to use. But this year, I think I’ve finally achieved the platonic ideal of a space heater (at least for me). This is the Dreo Solaris 718 and I consider it my mini fireplace.

Unobtrusive heater

I like the Dreo Solaris for its simple design, easy-to-use controls, and near-silent heat output. This is the type of heater you can set and forget about, and I mean that in the best possible way: it won’t constantly grab your attention with a loud hum, bright lights, or getting too hot. I know: how can heat be too hot? Well, if you’ve had a bad heater, you know what I mean. The heat seems to only go into one area or go in one direction, so the entire room is never comfortable.

Dreo Solaris – tower heater. You plug it into the outlet, and it stands vertically on the floor. Its slightly conical shape is simple and easy on the eye in the living room. On the front panel display you can observe the desired temperature, whether it is set to oscillating or timer mode. The backlit touch control panel is located on top so you can easily find the on/off button and set the timer, vibration modes and temperature controls.

Pros:

  • Quiet

  • Comfortable warmth

  • Pleasant appearance

  • Adjustable Oscillations

  • Tilting safe

  • Budget eco mode

The two most important factors for me are that the Solaris is the quietest heater I’ve ever used and the heat it produces is gentle and fills the room. The first day we used it, my partner noticed that it provided all the warmth of a small fireplace. I laughed at first, but soon agreed with him. It is powerful and emits heat like a glow rather than blowing in your face like other heaters. As you can see in the picture below, one of my cats insists that the Solaris be turned on every morning so she can sleep in front of it. This is a real sign of approval.

The outer shell stays cool, so if your kids bump into it while playing on the floor, they won’t get burned. Adjustable swing (30°, 60°, 90°, 120°) allows you to place it in the center of the room, in a corner or wherever your cat prefers to sleep.

Cons:

  • A little big for small spaces

At nearly 30 inches tall, the Solaris is a tall heater. This is a blessing for me because I will be purchasing a larger heating element for my living room, but if you are heating a small space, this unit may take up too much space. For example, I don’t like using it in my bedroom (which is about half the size of my living room) because it gets in the way.

Of course, the pros far outweigh the cons for me. The Dreo Solaris is an absolute winner if you’re looking for a quiet heater that gently warms large rooms even on Eco mode. Although I’ve only been using it for about six weeks – and there’s still a lot of winter ahead – I’m already benefiting from lower heating bills (and fairly regular electricity bills) compared to this time last year. The cat and I are very happy. Guys, stay warm there.
