Finally, Threads Has Search Filters.

While Threads supposedly has many more users than Bluesky , the Meta-owned social network appears to be taking its competitors seriously. After adding Bluesky-inspired features like the ability to choose your own default channel , Threads is now adding another one : improved search . Most notably, Threads now lets you search for messages by date and from specific profiles. This is ideal for focusing on specific messages that you remember but can’t find.

How to use Threads advanced search tools

Threads will be releasing these advanced search tools “in the coming weeks,” so if you can’t discover them yet, rest assured they’ll be coming to you soon. If you have them, here’s how to use them.

  1. Open topics on any platform.

  2. Click the magnifying glass icon to open the search tab.

  3. To the right of the search bar, you will see a three-line icon. Click on it to open new search filters.

New topic filters include the following:

  • After Date: Search for messages made after a specified date.

  • Before Date: Search for messages made before a specified date.

  • From Profile: Search for messages from a specific profile.

This is all self-explanatory, but the cool thing is that you can use multiple filters at the same time. For example, you can use date filters to find posts between December 2nd and December 4th. You can then narrow the range even further using the From Profile filter. This will allow you to easily find messages from that profile if you know when they were made.

While these new filters make searching topics much easier, they are still not as robust as Bluesky’s advanced search features . In Bluesky, you can filter by date, time, language, profiles, username mentions, etc. Still, it’s good to see Threads adding these features, if only to increase the competition.
