Govi Just Remembered About These Smart Heaters That Can Cause Fires and Burns
Smart heaters made by Govee and GoveeLife were voluntarily recalled this week due to tests that showed some models could overheat, causing fires or burns. This affected more than 500,000 units in the US and Canada. The recall includes several models, most of which entered the market last year.
Affected models:
-
H7130 (including option H7130101)
-
H7131
-
H7132
-
H7133
-
H7134
-
H7135
The model number can be found on the bottom of the Govee Smart Heater on the UL label. If your model is among those affected, you may be eligible for a refund —you don’t have to return the unit, but you will need proof of destruction (a picture of a cut heater cord) for the return process. It does not matter if the product is no longer under warranty. Once the cord is cut, it should be discarded or recycled (do not recycle or give it away; this also poses a fire hazard to those using it).
During the return process, you will be asked to provide your personal and order information. For more tips on finding your order number, visit our recall tips page here . If you need more help or have questions, you can contact Govi directly.
I’ve tested and reviewed two of these heaters over the past year, and while the tower heater has drawn some critical comments about the design, I’ve used and enjoyed the smaller Smart Heater Lite for the past year and would be sad to see it go away. But we have to go.
