These 55 Games Will Be Improved for the New PS5 Pro
One of the most anticipated days of 2024 is approaching: the release of the PS5 Pro . Sony’s upgraded PlayStation 5 console launches on November 7th, and if you can actually get it , it will be the best way to play Sony’s vast library of games – at least the ones that have been enhanced for the Pro.
While Sony has remained tight-lipped about the actual specs of its latest console, the PS5 Pro unboxing specs show the console running an 8-core, 16-thread AMD Ryzen Zen 2 processor and 16.7 teraflops of AMD Radeon RDNA processor. GPU based. This technology allows the PS5 Pro to enhance compatible games in three key ways: the new GPU can render graphics 45% faster than the original PS5; Ray tracing (a technique that creates realistic lighting effects) is perhaps double or triple the speed of the PS5; and, perhaps most importantly, the PS5 Pro uses AI upscaling to boost resolution and detail, using what Sony calls “PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution” (or PSSR).
Sony’s goal with the PS5 Pro is to combine the PS5’s two standard gaming modes into one. Nowadays, many games allow you to choose between performance and fidelity: the former lowers the graphics quality so you can achieve higher frame rates (which provides a smoother feel with little visual effects cost), and the latter increases the graphics quality, while Reduced frame rate, changing pros and cons. However, games that will take full advantage of the additional processing power will need to be “improved.” Otherwise, you’re just simulating the PS5 experience on your PS5 Pro.
While Sony previously announced several games that would be enhanced for the PS5 Pro, on Monday the company shared a much longer list : More than 50 games (55 to be exact) will be enhanced for the PS5 Pro at launch, and Sony says more games are coming soon . Of course, we won’t know exactly how much better many of these games will perform until we see hands-on tests. The games featured in Sony’s video certainly had some visual advantages, but there were also times where you actually had to squint to notice the difference. In all likelihood, the PS5 Pro will allow some of these demanding games to be played better since resolution and frame rates will be increased, but my guess is that it won’t make these games better enough to justify most of us upgrading from the PS5. — especially since the PS5 Pro costs $699.
If you haven’t yet purchased a PlayStation of this generation, you might be better off trying to find a refurbished PS5 Slim, which you can get for literally half the price of a Pro . I probably would have done that if I didn’t already have a base PS5, but since I have one, I’m just saving my money and playing on the console I already own.
