How to Change the Ringtone on Apple Watch
watchOS 11 adds the ability to change your Apple Watch ringtone, as well as set different ringtones for different types of alerts. Although I usually keep my Apple Watch on silent, this feature offers a real alternative. Sometimes I find haptic alerts a little annoying because they use the same intensity across all apps, and I now find it much less intrusive to set less striking ringtones for less important apps.
This allows me to quickly determine whether an alert requires my immediate attention or not. For example, if I hear a calendar alert, I know I should check my watch immediately, but for most others I can finish what I’m doing before checking it. If you like this, you should consider changing your Apple Watch ringtones in watchOS 11.
Change the ringtone on Apple Watch
After you install watchOS 11, unlock your Apple Watch and go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone . Select any of the following options for the main ringtone that will sound when you receive a call:
-
Pebbles
-
Focus
-
Jingle
-
Nighthawk
-
Broadcast
-
Rotate
-
Institution
-
Be surprised
Change the ringtone for other Apple Watch alerts
watchOS 11 also lets you set different alerts for different types of apps. On your watch, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics to check all the settings. You will be able to see the following options:
-
Text tone
-
Nova Poshta
-
Calendar alerts
-
Reminders and Alerts
-
Default Alerts
Select any of the above options to set it to sound. This means you can set a different tone for text messages, emails, calendar alerts, and reminders. The last option on the list, Default Alerts, allows you to set a sound alert for all other apps. Ideally, I’d like to set a custom alert for each of my apps, but that’s not possible at the moment. At the moment there is also no way to set different ringtones for different contacts. You can select any of the following alert sounds:
-
Resonate
-
brilliant
-
Joy
-
tremble
-
Globe
-
Moment
-
Scoop
-
Timekeeper
-
Tinker
-
Nobody
Select “No” if you don’t want sounds for a specific notification type. Now that you have installed new ringtones, check here to learn how to extend your Apple Watch battery life .
