TurboTax Customers Will Continue to Receive Their Incentive Payments
In contrast, Intuit’s TurboTax now says customers who did not receive assistance benefits due to a registration error will still receive them through a direct deposit instead of claiming it as part of their tax return.
Due to a glitch related to the IRS ‘ Get My Payment’ tool, H&R Block and TurboTax clients were sending their direct deposits to temporary walk-through bank accounts that were erroneously designated as the clients’ primary direct deposit accounts. H&R Block responded yesterday by stating that they will redirect payments to either the correct direct deposit account or customers’ Emerald Card. TurboTax, however, pointed to the IRS in a series of tweets , suggesting their hands are tied. Unfortunately, the IRS decision only encouraged people with unclaimed funds to request a refundable loan to repay their taxes on Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR, which obviously takes much longer than a direct deposit.
Now, in an email sent to customers, TurboTax advises that they are working with the IRS to receive these payments via direct transfer to eligible recipients:
Dear TurboTax Customer,
The IRS recently began paying a second round of incentive payments to those who are eligible. Unfortunately, due to an IRS error, millions of payments were sent to the wrong accounts, and some of them might not receive a promotional payment.
We worked tirelessly on a solution with the Treasury and the IRS. As a result, we expect the bug to be fixed within a few days and the incentive payments will start to be transferred to the correct bank accounts. We have also re-confirmed to the IRS that they have all the correct banking information. We know how important these funds are for so many Americans, and that everyone wants their money now more than ever. We will keep you updated on our efforts and we will continue until you receive your money.
Sincerely,
Greg Johnson,
