I Would Buy This Reolink Security Camera System for Prime Day

I was recently tasked with helping my friend Chuck, perhaps the most tech-savvy and suspicious person I know, set up a home security system in his new home. After reviewing a variety of cameras, home backup hubs, and connection types, we’ve compiled a short list of companies. Of the two options, Reolink was the better priced option and often had better reviews. By Amazon’s October Prime Day, many of their products will be on sale, so if you’re also looking to build a security system, I recommend taking advantage of this deal and purchasing a set of four POE cameras and a home recorder for 24/7 continuous recording . This bundle usually costs $559.99, but on October 8-9 Prime Big Deal Days it will cost $349.99 (38% off).

I like certain cameras because I need certain features. First on the list should be PTZ (Point, Tilt, Zoom), which gives you a near-infinite 360-degree view of the space you’re viewing, and you move the camera around using an in-app remote control. If security is a concern, you need a PoE camera that provides power over Ethernet. This ensures continuous power supply and uninterrupted connection and avoids Wi-Fi. These are IP cameras, which means you can actually restrict access to the stream or playback. Finally, they have 4K resolution, which is about the same as any high-end camera, and that’s all you need. Even at upscale, I find 4K does a great job at a hundred feet away.

The 2TB hard drive allows for continuous recording 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While this is a new trend in home security systems, I have yet to decide if I really need it more than the clips that most cameras currently provide you with. However, the clips sometimes lack action, and the 24/7 broadcast means you can always go back and review any details you missed. You can also install an external hard drive.

If you decide to add more PoE or Wi-Fi cameras in the future, you can support up to eight of them in this system.
