You Can Now Add Amtrak Tickets to Google Flight Comparison
Whether you’re not a fan of flying, are looking for greener ways to travel, or have a certain nostalgia for slower travel, you’ll now have an easier time comparing trains and planes when searching for tickets.
Google Flights recently added an Amtrak integration that allows travelers to view train alternatives and book selected fares on the Amtrak website. Here’s how to find a train ticket for your upcoming trip.
How to Find Amtrak Tickets on Google Flights
To view train ticket options for your trip, enter your departure and destination cities and travel dates into Google Flights. If there is an Amtrak alternative for this route, you will see it listed under the most recommended departure options in the “Trains to Consider” section.
Click “View More Train Options” to open a new tab showing departure times, trip duration, and one-way ticket prices. When you select a specific flight, you have the option to go to the Amtrak website where your trip details will be pre-populated for booking (so you don’t have to re-enter the information or search for the route again).
Please note that Amtrak will only offer “reasonable” flight alternatives for your itinerary. The reach of the rail network is limited compared to airlines, and a multi-day cross-country trip isn’t exactly reasonable, so you’re unlikely to see an Amtrak option for a route like Los Angeles to New York, even if you could technically find a way to get there by train .
