This Amazon Fire Tablet Is Now $60
If you want a simple, inexpensive tablet for watching Prime Video, reading Kindle books, or streaming music on a budget, you might want to check out the Amazon Fire HD 8 . At $59.99 (down from $129.99), it’s a good deal, although you’ll have to shell out an extra $15 if you want to avoid ads on your lock screen. It has an eight-inch screen that is technically HD resolution, but is on the low end. The 1280×800 pixel resolution won’t blow you away with image quality, but it’s reportedly decent enough for casual viewing.
The Fire HD 8 is powered by a six-core processor and has 2GB of RAM, enough for easy web browsing and streaming. Just don’t expect to be able to multitask or run heavy applications on this thing. PCMag’s review notes that the Fire HD 8 can be a little slow—not too bad, but you may notice some lag here and there. It comes with 64GB of internal storage, but if you are a multimedia lover and need more space, you can expand it up to 1TB using a microSD card.
Being an Amazon product, it comes pre-installed with apps like Kindle, Prime Video, Audible, and Prime Music. It also gives you access to the Amazon app store, which has a decent selection of apps and games. It doesn’t provide access to the Google Play Store, so you may not find some popular Android apps (like YouTube and Gmail) on this device. On the other hand, the sound quality and battery life of this tablet are quite good. Amazon claims 13 hours of battery life, but you’re looking at around 10, which isn’t bad for a $59.99 tablet.
If you need a little more performance or a better screen and can afford it, the $149.99 Fire HD 10 is worth a look.
