Sony Will Soon Sell Regular PS5 for Half the Price of PS5 Pro

With the release of new hardware, prices on older models are coming down, and after Sony announced the new PS5 Pro priced at $700 , the company is also preparing to provide the rest of us with a much cheaper alternative.

As deal expert Wario64 noted right before the PS5 Pro reveal, it appears that Sony’s PlayStation Direct store now has new listings for refurbished models of the base PS5. They’re not on sale yet, but are listed as “coming soon” and cost about $100 less than their brand new counterparts.

This means that the version of the PS5 with a disc drive will cost $400, while the version without a disc drive will cost up to $350, meaning you’ll soon be able to pick up Sony’s current-gen console for half the price of a PS5 Pro. I still recommend the model with a disc drive, but I also watch a lot of Blu-Ray .

Specifically, the listings are for the versions of the PS5 sold at launch, not the PS5 Slim that came out last year. The launch PS5s still perform just as well as the slim model, so the difference is largely aesthetic, although note that a PS5 released as a “digital edition” won’t be able to use the optional disc drive Sony introduced with the Slim update. The PS5 Slim also has slightly more storage, but the 825GB in the launch model should still be enough for most people.

Sony provides a 12-month warranty on all refurbished devices, promising that users should expect them to function without issue, although you may notice scratches or other cosmetic blemishes. However, for people who use their PS4, this is an opportunity to experience PS5 exclusive games like Astro Bot while paying less than the PS4 Pro’s launch price ($399).

Sony is also set to start selling refurbished PS5 DualSense controllers alongside its used consoles, although the price cuts there are much less aggressive: $65 for used models compared to $75 for new ones.
