The Almighty Will Make You Mac God

One of the main reasons to use a Mac is the abundance of high-quality indie apps available on it. My colleagues and I have written about many of them, including tools to help you take better screenshots , better screen recordings , and even some downright silly apps that will put a smile on your face . I love discovering apps like this and check out new ones all the time, but I know it might get boring for some.

If you’re the kind of person who prefers to have one app to manage them all, you should try Almighty . It comes with over 50 cool settings and utilities—from an emoji picker to a tool that lets you copy text from images—all in one app. The app has a seven-day free trial, but if you like it, you can buy it from the developer’s website for just $20. It’s also available on the Mac App Store for $16, but due to Apple restrictions, many tools are not available in this version.

Getting Started with the Almighty

Before jumping into the utilities, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the interface and how the application works. The home screen can feel a little chaotic since it’s where all the utilities are, and I don’t know about you, but my brain has a hard time processing that. I’m more of an “organize utilities into folders” person.

Luckily for people like us, Almighty has plenty of sorting options on the left panel. Start with the Popular tab to see your most commonly used tools—some of which you’ll likely find particularly useful. There are also subsections that organize tools by their functions, such as the Display section, which brings together all the settings related to your Mac’s screen. Finally, you can create your own folders to organize your tools the way you want. By default, Almighty comes with a Favorites folder that allows you to bookmark tools you like, but you can also go to the app’s Settings and go to the Workflow tab to create additional folders.

Finally, I highly recommend that you set up keyboard shortcuts for the tools you like best. Almighty allows you to create keyboard shortcuts for each utility, which can be done by going to the utility page and clicking the gear icon in the bottom right corner. From there, go to the Customize menu to see the keyboard shortcut option. Based on these tips, let’s take a look at some of the best utilities in Almighty.

Copying text from images

This feature is available in Almighty using the Extract Text tool. It’s in the Utilities section. Run it to automatically turn your cursor into a crosshair. Then click and drag an image or even a video to highlight text, and Extract Text will automatically copy it to the clipboard. Paste it wherever you want.

Select active window

When you have a lot of windows open, it can be difficult to focus on what you’re doing. In this case, use Almighty’s Highlight Active Window setting to automatically darken all background windows. This will allow you to easily pay attention to the front window.

Add Middle Click to Your Mac

There are other apps that allow your Mac to middle-click , but if you don’t want to mess with them, Almighty has its own. This is called “Middle Click” and you can find it under the “Mouse” section. Like other middle-click apps, it allows you to tap the trackpad (or magic mouse) with three fingers to middle-click. You can use this feature to quickly open links in your browser’s background tabs.

Clear your clipboard in one click

We’ve all copied passwords or sensitive credit card information at one time or another. If you use a good password manager, it will automatically clear your clipboard, but if you’ve copied sensitive data from your iPhone and are pasting it onto your Mac, you might want to take extra care and delete it from your clipboard. You don’t want to accidentally insert it into an unsafe place. To do this, use Almighty’s Clear Clipboard utility.

Previewing open windows in the dock

Windows PCs have a great feature that allows you to move your mouse cursor to any application on the taskbar and display thumbnails of all open windows. Almighty allows you to replicate this on your Mac using the Preview Dock Window tool. This is available in the Dock section.

View all keyboard shortcuts

There are many easy ways to learn the best keyboard shortcuts , and Almighty has one too. This tool is called View Shortcuts. Once launched, the tool will show you a searchable list of keyboard shortcuts for the app you are currently using. To get the most out of this tool, you should use a keyboard shortcut to launch it.

Don’t let your Mac go to sleep

The Mac app “Amphetamine” allows you to prevent your computer from going to sleep . It’s a great app, but if you want a simpler tool, Almighty has a Keep Mac Awake tool. While Amphetamine is highly customizable, Keep Mac Awake makes things simple. Turn it on to prevent your Mac from going to sleep, and turn it off when you’re ready to give your computer a rest.

Add an Exit button to the Finder menu

Your Mac doesn’t make it easy to exit Finder. If you go to its menu, you won’t see an exit button. Almighty allows you to add a Sign Out button to the Finder using the Add Sign Out Option option.
