Now We Know When Google Will Release Android 15

Google may have launched the Pixel 9 line of smartphones , but they don’t come with Android 15 . Unlike Apple, whose newest smartphones typically ship with the latest big iOS update, your Pixel 9 or Pixel 9 Pro runs Android 14 . But they won’t last long: as of Tuesday morning, we know when Android 15 will hit compatible devices.

Android Authority was the first to report the news via an unnamed source. While a Google spokesperson told Android Authority that he had no news to share at this time, the company soon confirmed the timing. Google has retroactively adjusted the Android Beta Exit release notes to include the following disclaimer: “NOTE. If you’re expecting a stable Android 15 update, ignore this OTA until Android 15 becomes available in October.”

Yes guys: Android 15 will be released in October. While we don’t know the exact date yet, according to an Android Authority source, the update could arrive sometime in the middle of the month. But at least we know not to get our hopes up during September.

What will happen to Android 15?

Google’s upcoming update won’t completely change your smartphone, but it will bring some great new features , especially when it comes to privacy and security . There’s Private Space , which allows you to designate a separate space on your phone for sensitive apps and files; Theft detection lock, which locks your smartphone if it detects that it has been stolen; and Authentication Lock, which, as with Apple devices, requires your account credentials before you can set up the device as new.

Other cool features include partial screen sharing, which allows you to share specific parts of your phone’s display; notification recovery time, which allows you to control the number of notifications the app can send you; additional controls in the Camera app; High-quality webcam mode, allowing you to use Android as a reliable webcam replacement; and the continued development of satellite communications.
