Apple Awards Mysterious “points” to Apple Intelligence Beta Testers
Apple Intelligence won’t officially launch until the iOS 18.1 update later this year , but Apple is already asking users to help train it, and it looks like the company might even reward them. Including you, provided you’re willing to jump through a few hoops .
Apple’s beta programs have always received a lot of feedback, so it’s no surprise that its generative AI efforts are taking the same approach. This is where Apple wants you to tell it whether its AI is good at its job or not, and if not, what’s going wrong. Your feedback will then be used to train and improve Apple Intelligence services and AI models.
Apple will even give you some points for your troubles. What exactly you can do with these points isn’t entirely clear right now, but I hope they can be redeemed for a paid Apple Intelligence upgrade in the future.
You can provide feedback in the Rate Your Experience section of the Feedback Assistant app, which will be automatically installed with your beta. Here’s what Apple says about the Rate Your Experience feature:
Help improve Apple products and services! Content, such as your emails from the Mail app and messages from the Messages app, will appear to you along with content generated from them for Apple Intelligence features. This data always remains on your device unless you choose to send it to Apple after evaluating your experience.
The app walks you through some recent AI findings and asks for your feedback. You can answer “Thumbs up” or “Thumbs down” depending on your experience. If your experience is unsatisfactory, Apple will ask you to provide additional information. You can either type your answer or select one of the pre-filled options.
You’ll find pre-populated feedback options for many Apple Intelligence features, including Smart Reply, Notification Summary, Email Summary, Priority Emails, Image Playground, Writing Tools, and more.
Some pre-populated email summary options include:
-
Difficult to understand
-
Key detail missing
-
Incorrect Attributions
-
Too long
-
Irrelevant add-ons
-
Stereotypes or bias
-
Overly suggestive or sexual
-
Vulgar or offensive

Once you leave a review, Apple will show you an account with the points you’ve earned, where you can level up by providing more reviews. As we mentioned above, Apple hasn’t explained what your points will be used for. As Apple noted above, AI generative data and feedback prompts remain on your device by default. But you can send the data to Apple after evaluation.
