You Should Update Your Laundry Basket

You almost certainly have a basket that you collect your dirty clothes in (right?). But still your clothes end up on the floor. Even if you have all the storage and organization tools you need, if they aren’t easy to use and/or don’t provide major benefits, you’ll just go the usual route. Updating your shopping cart to something more affordable or useful may be the push you need.

Upgraded laundry baskets

The basket can be anything. I regularly send my laundry to a service that picks it up and returns it to me, so my “basket” is a branded bag that they insist my clothes arrive in when they come to pick them up. However, for everything I don’t ship, I have a trick: I put the dirty clothes directly in the rolling cart that I push into the laundry room. I do this because I know that I am a lazy person. If I had to transfer clothes from another basket to a rolling cart, I would set them aside and they would pile up. Streamlining the process works for me and may work for you, but a cart like this really takes up space. I keep mine in the closet by the entrance.

Of course, not everyone is a poor city dweller, so doing laundry can be done right at home. Lucky you! You can still use my wheeled cart trick. In fact, you should do this. There’s no point in breaking your back carrying a large basket from room to room. You can purchase a simple plastic wheeled bin for $23.98. But why stop there? I also recommend looking at baskets with sections or dividers, some of which also have wheels. You can use the sections as you wish. These could include light and dark items, clothes made from certain fabrics, clothes that need to be washed earlier than others, or clothes from different family members or housemates. There are a variety of configurations, from two-piece baskets to four-piece baskets ($39.99). I really like this two-piece option that hangs vertically ($59.99) because it has a small footprint and is easy to store. This three-section wicker basket is great too, especially if you’re keeping it in a more public room and want it to look a little classy:

And yes, they all have wheels. At the end of the day, our goal is to make laundry day easier. However, you can also try a basket with a built-in bag. The tough exterior keeps it upright so it’s easy to put clothes in, and there’s a pouch inside that makes it easy to pull laundry out of, carry it to the car, and carry it around the house to put it away. once it’s folded.

Your problem may not be ease of transportation, but rather storage space. In this case, try a basket that hangs outside the door. It fits easily in your closet, making use of the empty space between hanging clothes and the door. There are also some really inexpensive options here, so you can have one in multiple rooms. This fabric one costs $11.99. You can also upgrade to a behind-the-door model with more capacity and extra pockets for storing detergent or small items like socks for $23.99.
