You Can Now Hide IPhone App Names

Home screen customization is finally coming to iPhone with iOS 18 . You can place apps and widgets anywhere on your home screen as long as they are arranged in a grid. Apple will also now let you change the color of app icons or switch to a darker color palette.

But included in all of this is a more hidden feature that lets you remove name tags from apps and widgets. Until now, you’ve had to resort to third-party apps or clunky shortcuts to get that clean home screen look that Android users take for granted.

It might seem like a small change, but it gives your home screen a huge aesthetic boost. When you switch to a larger Home screen layout, the size of app icons and widgets increases slightly, but the overall layout remains the same. Here’s how it works.

This feature only works if you’re using iOS 18, so start by updating your OS. At the time of writing, iOS 18 is available for free as a public beta , with a stable release scheduled for fall 2024.

On iPhone, go to the Home screen and touch and hold an empty part of the Home screen. Here, click the Edit button in the top left corner, then select the Customize option.

This will show you a new home screen customization option. Here, switch to Large mode.

You’ll immediately notice that the icons on your Home screen will become larger and lose their name tags (as shown in the screenshot below). This change will occur on all home screens. Swipe up from the home panel to save your settings.

Once in the customization screen, you can go even further to achieve a more uniform look. Switch to Tinted mode, choose a tint color, then activate Dark mode if necessary. This will make your screen really bright. Play around to see what looks best to your eyes.
