Your PS5 Will Get Two New Features

Yesterday Sony released a new firmware update for PlayStation 5 consoles . The update, namely version 24.05-09.60.00, does not contain a huge list of new features, but two of them are worth your time.

Start a game session using a URL

First, Sony is adding the ability to share game invites via a URL. Once updated, you’ll be able to send your friends a link to your game so they can visit the URL and connect.

The update notes say that you can share this URL by opening the game session activity card, selecting “Share Link” and scanning the QR code with your smartphone. From here you can share the URL with anyone you want to play with. Sony says this link sharing feature only works for public open gaming sessions and that it should be rolled out to all players by today (July 24).

Game tips using voice command

Additionally, you can now use voice command to open game help action cards , an in-game Sony feature that allows you to view hints and tips when you get stuck on a difficult part of the game. Previously, you had to select them using your controller, but now you can ask the PS5 to show them using a voice command by saying “Show game help.” Voice control is still in preview and is only available in English on PSN in the US and UK.

These are the two main “features” of this firmware update, but there are other changes as well. Sony says they’ve improved messaging and usability on some PS5 screens, so hopefully things are easier to follow across the board. Additionally, your PlayStation experience should be more stable as this update improves the stability of both the PS5 software and your DualSense controllers.
