You Should Try Airdash for File Sharing Across Platforms
If you have multiple Apple, Windows, and Android devices, quickly transferring a file from one to another can be difficult. Airdash is an open source program that solves this problem: simply install the app on all your devices and you can send files directly, meaning nothing of yours is ever stored on a server somewhere. Even better: since there is no server, there is no limit on file size beyond what can fit on the receiving device.
To get started, install the app on all your devices. You’ll then need to pair your devices, and it’s quick: you’ll just need to enter the four-digit codes on both devices. You will need to repeat this process between any two devices you want to share files between.
Then, when it’s time to transfer files, simply select the device you want to send the file to and choose which file you want to send. Please note that the application must be open on both devices (the desktop version can be launched in the system tray, which makes things easier).
Click Send and once the transfer is complete, the file will appear in the Downloads folder of the receiving device.
Since there is no server involved, the transfer speed will depend entirely on the Internet speed of the two devices. I tested this locally and found it to be almost instantaneous; I tested it on devices on two different networks and found it to be a bit slower. In my opinion, the main use case for this is to quickly transfer large files from one device to another, especially if you’re trying to maximize free file storage , although it can also be handy for the occasional small file.
