My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: MacBook Air M2

Apple laptops stand the test of time, as senior tech editor Jake Peterson explains in his article that Apple’s M1 and M2 chips will still have great value in 2024. its lowest price on Amazon, according to Price Checker Tools : $829 (originally $999) after a $170 rebate. This is my favorite Amazon deal to date.

The MacBook Air M2 price dropped to $999 in April , shortly after the release of the new M3 laptops . A bargain was expected back then and at that price it was excellent value for money. At $829, it’s impressive enough to consider upgrading. If you have an M1, you can see the difference between the M1 and M2 and see if you should upgrade. If you’re considering an M2 or M3, you can see our full details here .

If a 256GB SSD isn’t enough for you, the 512GB SSD is also heavily discounted at Amazon for $1,029 (originally $1,199). And if you’re looking for a larger 15-inch screen , Best Buy’s $1,199.99 (originally $1,499) deal is the best deal.

The MacBook Air M2 is perhaps Apple’s best ultraportable laptop, but it’s not for everyone . As Jake noted:

It has the same design language, M2 chip with octa-core CPU and 10-core GPU with up to 24GB of memory, two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports (which seems a little low for a 15-inch machine), MagSafe charging port, Web -1080p camera and display with P3 color gamut and up to 500 nits brightness. It even has the same claimed battery life of 18 hours thanks to a larger battery to power the larger display.

The Air only comes with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, which is roughly the same memory and storage specs you’ll find in a 2023 computer. Again, this may suit your use: after all, the M2 is powerful, and its design means you can do a lot with a little RAM. But someday the 8GB RAM will stop working and you won’t be able to upgrade the memory yourself. The same goes for storage: if you spend your entire life in the cloud, 256GB might be enough. But if you store any photos, videos, or other large files on your Mac, you’ll end up having to use an external drive permanently connected to your computer, or you’ll have to constantly manage the storage until you sell the computer.
