The Best Items to Maximize Your Bathroom Storage Space

Even if you decant all your products and organize them into neater dispensers , your bathroom won’t be organized until you declutter your shelves and other storage areas. If there’s one organizational lesson I can teach you, it’s that everything you own needs its own designated place, and if there’s one more thing I can teach you, it’s that one big shelf not enough for everything. Here’s how to organize your bathroom storage.

View More Shelves

My bathroom had three shelves built into the wall, which was great, but I immediately knew I needed more. One became the home for my perfume, another was marked for skin care, and the third holds hair products, but there was no room left for makeup, hair accessories, hair tools, spare towels, lotions, and random items like cotton balls or q-tips. Before I unpacked anything when I moved in, I went out and bought more shelves.

First I got a bookshelf, which may seem strange, but that’s because it was. (I didn’t buy it, but I found it thrown out on the street and brought it home to wash it. I may not have bought it, but you should buy it if you have the space.) Mine looks like this one plain and fits right. next to my sink. Look around your space and see if there is room for some shelving. Even this slim storage is great because it creates a dedicated shelf for four different categories of items.

You may also want to consider installing additional shelves in your shower, even if you already have storage space there. I have a shower rack like this , a corner shelf like this, and a basket with mesh pockets that hangs on the curtain rod.

Organization of shelving in the bathroom

Of course, how you decide to organize your bathroom shelves depends on what you need to organize. Personally, I spent most of my time purchasing the right tools for organizing my makeup , but I also have dividers to organize my shelves for other purposes. This basket under the shelf where I store headbands and other hair accessories that are difficult to store in other ways has been a big help:

They turn any shelf into a double shelf without affecting the bottom shelf too much. I also have a cabinet shelf that can be mounted on top of my shelving unit, which also increases the amount of stuff that can be stored on top. It’s designed to help organize the cabinets students use at school, but it was very useful for keeping my Q-tips, cotton balls, teeth whitening strips, and wet wipes separate. (Yes, I decant it all and put it in more organized little containers that then go on or above the cabinet organizer.)

Try this too:

  • Tiny drawers that can be placed on shelves to hide unobtrusive items or organize smaller items ($28.80).

  • Simple floating shelves that can be used on bathroom walls, maximizing the utility of your vertical space ($14.49 for four).

  • Pull-out shelves that can be placed in the cabinet under the sink to store cleaning supplies or larger items such as towels ($29.99).

  • Clip-on acrylic dividers that allow you to give everything you store on a specific shelf its own place (six for $20.99).
