Google Is Introducing More Generative Artificial Intelligence Into Search

AI was a dominant force at Google I/O this year , and one of Google’s biggest announcements was a new Gemini model tailored for Google search. Over the next few weeks, Google will roll out several AI features in search, including AI reviews, AI-organized search results, and video search.

AI Reviews

When you search for something on Google and want a quick answer, AI reviews come into play. This feature gives you an AI-generated overview of the topic you’re looking for and lists its sources with links you can follow for further reading. Google has been testing AI reviews in search labs, but this week it expanded the feature to everyone in the US.

Later, you can adjust your AI overview by adding options that simplify some of the terminology used and even break down the results in more detail. Ideally, you could turn a complex search into something accessible to everyone. Google is also promoting a feature that lets you combine multiple queries into one search: the company used the example of “find the best yoga or pilates studios in Boston and show me details of their introductory offers and walking times from Beacon Hill,” and AI Reviews returned the full result .

As with other AI-generated models, you can also use this feature to make action plans, including meal plans and travel preparation.

Results organized using artificial intelligence

In addition to AI reviews, Google Search will soon use generative AI to create an “AI-driven results page.” The idea is that the AI will intelligently sort out the most suitable options for you, so you don’t have to dig around the internet as much. So when you search for something like restaurants for a birthday dinner, Google’s AI will suggest the best options it can find, grouped under AI-generated headings. The results, organized using artificial intelligence, will be searchable in English in the United States.

Search from video

Previously, Google introduced a feature called Circle to Search , which allows you to circle elements on your screen to start a Google search for a specific subject. But soon, you’ll also be able to start your Google search with video. The company cited an example of a customer who purchased a used record player whose stylus did not work properly. The client filmed the problem, described it out loud, and submitted it through a Google search. Google analyzed the problem and returned the appropriate result, as if the user had simply described the problem in detail.

Search with video will soon be available toSearch Labs users in English in the US. Google will expand this feature to more users in the coming months.
