What to Expect at Apple’s May Event

WWDC 2024 may be Apple’s big software event , but it’s not the only announcement the company is making this spring. It turns out that Apple also has an event planned for May , and while there are no official details, it seems pretty obvious what it’s about: iPads.

When will Apple’s iPad presentation take place?

Apple’s new event, dubbed “Let Loose,” will begin on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 a.m. PT (10 a.m. ET). It’s an early start for the Cupertino-based company, which typically hosts events at 10 a.m. PT or 1 p.m. ET.

However, this is not the first time in recent times that the company has deviated from this deadline. At its Mac ” Scary Fast ” event in October, which unveiled the M3 line, Apple kicked off the pre-recorded event at 5:00 pm PT (8:00 pm PT). I guess 10am PT is now reserved for big events like WWDC and iPhone announcements.

Like Scary Fast, the Let Loose event will be pre-recorded and posted on apple.com .

What will Apple show during the iPad presentation?

Apple hasn’t confirmed any details of the event, but it will most likely focus on the iPad. The event’s logo is an image of a person holding an Apple Pencil and “drawing” the iconic Apple logo. Not to mention, there have been rumors about the iPad over the last couple of months.

As for the details, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that Apple will update the iPad Pro line with the latest M3 chips, a larger iPad Pro display, as well as a new OLED display, a first for the iPad. Apple may also release new Magic Keyboards, especially with larger trackpads.

If you’re more of an iPad Air fan, you’re in luck: Gurman says Apple is also updating the Airs, this time with an M2 chip, as well as two size options: 10.9-inch (the standard iPad option). Air) and 12.9-inch (the current size of the larger iPad Pro). Apple is unlikely to implement OLED in the iPad Air (I guess they think OLED is a “pro” feature), but some rumors suggest the company is packing the Airs with a mini LED , which is really the next best thing to OLED.

Mini LED displays have thousands of local dimming zones to precisely control display contrast, so darker areas of the image appear pitch black. It can’t compare to OLED, which allows all pixels to turn off if needed, and this technology suffers from “blooming” where some light bleeding surrounds elements on the screen, but it produces much better contrast than traditional LED. displays found on the current iPad Air.

Either way, now is probably not the right time to buy an iPad .
