The Funniest Thing You Can Do With Your Eclipse Glasses After Today’s Eclipse

Eclipse glasses are an essential piece of eclipse viewing gear , as you should never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection. But once the moment has passed and you no longer need said glasses (the next total eclipse in North America won’t occur until 2044), don’t just throw them in the trash. Instead, consider donating for future use.

Where to donate eclipse glasses

There are several organizations that collect used, undamaged eclipse glasses to be recycled and donated to communities around the world for upcoming eclipses. The non-profit organization Astronomers Without Borders has collection points in several places on the path to totality:

  • Fort Wayne, Indiana: Refinery, FW

  • Toledo, Ohio: Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful

  • Twinsburg, Ohio: Twinsburg Public Library

  • Norwich, VA: Montshire Science Museum.

  • South Burlington, VA: Chittenden Solid Waste District

You can also drop off your used eclipse glasses at any Warby Parker retail store through April 30th.

Another organization, Eclipse Glasses USA, accepts glasses by mail to Eclipse Glasses USA, LLC, PO Box 50571, Provo, Utah, 84605. You have until August 1st to mail your glasses, after which they will be distributed to Latin schools . America during an annular eclipse in October 2024.

Please note: glasses used with care should not have scratches, punctures or tears.

If your glasses are damaged and cannot be donated, you can recycle the temples . However, the lenses must be thrown away.
