Your PS5’s Next Update Will Be Big
While we wait for Sony to release any information about the PS5 Pro , there are some interesting and exciting changes coming in an upcoming software update. YouTuber Mystic shared details of the update in a video on Thursday, which, among other changes, includes a battery widget and the ability to choose a live wallpaper for the Explore tab.
Speaking of the Overview tab, this update focuses only on that section of your PS5. Besides the new look, it also includes new information such as battery indicators for your controllers and connected peripherals like the Pulse Elite . There’s also a Console Storage tab here that gives you a preview of your storage situation and, if selected, will take you to your storage settings. On the right side of the screen you’ll find sections for game recordings, gaming news, a scrollable wishlist, and online content such as your friends list, your friends’ activities (including what games they’re playing and trophies they’ve earned ).
The Explore tab now also supports custom backgrounds, including screenshots and live wallpapers. Mystic showed off several options that are PlayStation themed and look nice as the background of the Explore tab. However, these wallpapers disappear when you exit the Browse tab, so don’t expect to set the wallpaper for your entire PS5. (Man, I miss themes.) You can choose whether the Explore tab prioritizes individual content or friends’ content, or both.
Because these changes primarily affect the Explore tab, this update is limited to the US at this time. For some reason , Sony doesn’t make the Browse tab open to other regions , so if you’re outside the US, this update probably won’t affect your PS5 much.
This beta update follows last week’s PS5 9.00 system update , which added small changes such as an improved microphone and louder speaker on the DualSense controller, new screen sharing options, and a brightness level adjustment for the console.
