Five Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Eero Wi-Fi Network

One of the main benefits of Amazon Eero Wi-Fi devices is that they provide a wireless home network that is easy to set up and manage. The Eero app for Android or iOS can help you connect your Eero devices to the network, place them in the right places where you live, and keep everything running smoothly.

Once you get through the initial setup phase and your mesh Wi-Fi system is working well, the Eero app also offers a number of useful features for managing your network—managing speeds, user access, device connections, and more.

Enable guest access

Guest access can be easily managed. 1 credit

If you frequently have visitors around you who need to use your Wi-Fi, we recommend turning on the guest network. This means they can surf the Internet on their devices, but they don’t have full access to the network—for example, they can’t see your printers or smart home devices or start streaming videos to a Chromecast. It keeps data and devices on your network secure while maintaining access to the Internet.

To do this in the Eero app, click Settings and then Guest Network . You can set up a network name and password, and then have the option to share that data with other people—you can send it directly through an app on your phone ( Share Wi-Fi Data ) or create a QR code ( Share QR Code ) that’s yours. Guests will be able to scan using their smartphone camera.

Protect children

You can assign specific devices to specific family members. 1 credit

Eero lets you manage your family members online: From the Home tab, click the + (plus) button at the top right, then select Add Profile . Give the profile a name, then select its associated devices (gadgets your kids use) and click Done . The profiles you create appear in the Home tab—tap any of them to make changes.

On a separate profile page, you can add additional devices and temporarily block that person from accessing the Internet. To control the time you access the network, click “Add a scheduled break” and select a time. Other parental controls, including app and website blocking, require an Eero Plus subscription ($9.99 per month).

Set up your devices

Connected gadgets can be controlled individually. 1 credit

In the Home tab, the Eero app shows all the phones, laptops, and other devices currently connected to your network devices. Tap any device to make changes and view more information: you can change the name assigned to it in the Eero app and specify the type of device it is, you can see what internet activity it is responsible for, and you can see which of your Eeros nodes to which it is currently connected.

It is also possible to assign a specific profile to the device (see previous tip). If you want to temporarily restrict this device’s access to the network, click Pause ; If you want to block it permanently, click “Block this device” and confirm your choice. To unlock a gadget that you previously downloaded from the network, go to the Home tab, then select the device in the Locked section and click Unlock this device .

Device notifications

Receive alerts whenever new devices are connected. 1 credit

We get it if you’re already feeling overwhelmed by the notifications coming to your smartphone, but the ones Eero delivers can actually be useful. Go to Settings , then Notifications , and you can control what alerts are allowed—this includes notifications about network status and software updates needed by your Eero devices.

One type of notification that’s worth turning on is New Devices , so you’ll get an alert every time a new device comes online for the first time. You can also limit this notification to unrecognized devices that don’t have a name seen by the Eero network. before. Of course, these alerts will match the general notification settings on your phone.

Network management

More advanced options are also available. 1 credit

You can apply any settings to boxes on your Eero network: just click on them in the Home tab. For example, if you have an Eero unit in a room where someone is trying to sleep, use the Status Indicator option to dim the LED light or turn it off altogether. You can also run speed tests on your devices, see which devices are connected, and assign them to different rooms in your home from the same page.

Head over to the Settings tab for more network management options—under Network Settings, you can configure DNS and manage the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) protocol that some game consoles and media streamers rely on. You can also restart the network directly from the app on this page, saving you the hassle of wandering around the house turning all your Eero devices off and on again.
