March on HBO Max offers a wide selection of original movies and shows streaming only on Max; from Kate Winslet’s political satire Regime to Lionheart , a documentary exploring the life, death and legacy of Indy racer Dan Wheldon. Below are the best of the best on Max this month.

Kate Winslet stars in this dark comedy series that takes us inside the palace walls of an authoritarian regime. Winslet plays Elena Wernham, the reclusive leader of a fictional European totalitarian state. As Wernham becomes increasingly paranoid, her attempts to maintain and increase her power destroy the palace and the nation. Regime also stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Helen’s “personal water diviner” who becomes her closest advisor, and Guillaume Gallienne as her poetry-loving husband.

Girls on the bus
Inspired by Amy Chozick’s novel Chasing Hilary , the series tells the story of four female journalists on the campaign trail during a tumultuous political season. Each brings a different style of newsgathering, from print journalism to TikTok, and although the “girls” start out as rivals, life in the reporting trenches turns the foursome into a newfound family. Girls on the Bus stars Melissa Benoist, Carla Gugino, Natasha Benham and Christina Elmore.

Revolution on canvas
Part political thriller, part artistic documentary , Revolution on Canvas explores the controversy and turmoil surrounding the paintings of Iranian contemporary artist Niki Nojoumi. Having moved to Iran to help overthrow the Shah in 1980, Nojoumi quickly ruffled the new regime’s feathers with his solo exhibition, “Report on the Revolution.” He was forced to flee, and more than 100 of his paintings went missing. “Revolution on Canvas” details the artist and his family’s attempt to recover the paintings, or at least find out what happened to them.

Wonka (2023)
Timothée Chalamet plays the title character in this prequel/reimagining of famed chocolate maker Roald Dahl. Achieving such a delightful tone without becoming mawkish and cheesy is no easy task, but Wonka manages to succeed thanks to a talented cast, a superb script, catchy songs and sumptuous production design. In other words, against all odds, Wonka is pretty good.

Lion Heart
In 2011, two-time Indy 500 champion Dan Wheldon died in one of the worst crashes in racing history. Lionheart details his career and death, as well as his legacy, both personal and professional. Wheldon is survived by his wife and two children, and she is helping his sons follow in their father’s footsteps in the world of auto racing, despite his tragic death.

Guy Fieri’s endless, quixotic quest for amazing flavors continues in Season 47 of the hit food show. “Justice USA” looks at the criminal justice system in Nashville through the eyes of inmates, attorneys, administrators and legislators. This powerful six-episode documentary takes viewers from men’s, women’s and juvenile prisons into the halls of power where laws are being passed, exploring how justice works in America circa 2024.

Dream Scenario (2023)
The great Nicolas Cage stars in this surreal comedy that takes a darkly satirical look at fame in the age of constant hookups. Paul Matthews (Cage, playing against type) is a boring, sleazy college professor who secretly craves academic fame. He becomes famous, but instead of people talking about his research, everyone in the world suddenly starts dreaming about Matthews.

Green Knight (2021)
We’re all familiar with the swords and wizards imagery that Hollywood has attached to the Arthurian legends, but The Green Knight aims to tell the Arthurian story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight , as it was written in a 14th century poem. . There is no Excalibur or Merlin here. Instead, The Green Knight is a stream of dreamlike, symbolic images and scenarios that sometimes make no logical sense but nonetheless have a strange, primal power.
