Mona Is the Best Mastodon Client for IOS
In many ways , Mastodon reminds me of what I really loved about Twitter. All sorts of people write on it about topics that interest me, and it can display the stupidest posts in a way that suits my tastes. Lots of great third-party apps are another reason I use Mastodon more than any other Twitter alternative . While Ivory seems to be the Mastodon app of choice for most Apple users (and I like it too), another app I’m increasingly leaning towards is Mona .
For me, the joy of using third-party social media clients is the ability to customize everything to your liking. That’s why Apollo was my favorite Reddit client , and now Mona is my favorite Mastodon client for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Mona allows you to customize a lot of things, and its latest update also adds the ability to schedule posts.
Mona has a generous free tier
Mona allows you to post, follow people, take polls, retweet (Mastodon’s version of retweets), and get free access to a lot of customization tools. This may seem normal, but many other third-party Mastodon apps limit too many features in the free tier. If that’s not enough, Mona has a unique 14-day free trial that won’t charge you for it after the trial ends. You can try all Pro features for two weeks without worrying about cancellation.
If you want to upgrade, Mona charges a one-time fee ($11.99 for one platform and $19.99 for all Apple platforms it supports) to unlock all Pro features. There is no recurring subscription, which will appeal to many people.
You can schedule posts
Mona 6, the newest update to the app, allows you to schedule Mastodon sounds. This is an important feature for people who use Mona to showcase their work: it’s a good idea to post your posts so that more people can see them. Mona scheduling is easy to set up and works well in the Mac and iPhone apps.
Share sounds as screenshots
Many of my friends don’t want to join Mastodon, but they really like the funny posts I see on social media. For these people, I like to use Mona’s built-in screenshot tool, which quickly captures any post, copies the image to the clipboard, or allows me to share it directly to messaging apps. It’s much faster than taking screenshots of posts manually.
Automatically convert long messages into topics
If you type a long message that exceeds Mastodon’s 500 character limit for a single message, Mona will automatically convert it into a thread. The app also numbers each message in a thread so people know how long your thread is and can trace its beginning and end if necessary.
Lots of automation tools available
Mona supports Apple Shortcuts actions, which allow you to automate many things. You can set it to automatically create posts based on certain triggers and combine this with the iPhone 15 Pro’s action button for even faster execution. Developer Junyu Kuang has listed the following on their App Store page as part of the Mona 6 update:
Send messages with a scheduled date
Receive, move or delete scheduled posts
Send messages with attached media or surveys.
Send replies to a specified message so you can create a message thread with custom automation.
Get character limit for a specific account
Split text for streaming
Retrieve, add, edit or remove server filters associated with your Mastodon accounts.
Check if the Mona app is running (so you can change the behavior of the Action button when Mona is running)
Get the message or profile currently displayed in the Mona app.
Open the in-app message editor or search view.
Set options for automatic video playback (for example, when using a specific focus mode or when the battery is low).
Getting and setting an image caption (for example, in combination with a third-party caption action)
Get the text of the availability of accounts or publications

You can customize the appearance and operation of the application.
Mona gives you an unprecedented level of control over your interface. You can go to the app settings and select “Tab Bar” to see all the buttons on the bottom bar. Here you can change the order, show or hide any element. You can also rename any of these buttons and change their icon, which is a level of freedom that few apps offer. You can also go to the General page in Mona’s settings and adjust a variety of other options, including text size, whether you see people icons, whether you want to automatically expand long messages, and more. It’s also worth visiting the Post Actions Settings page to set up quick actions for any post in your feed.
