DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser Can Finally Sync Your Passwords

Often cited as one of the most secure, privacy-focused browsers/search engines on the market, DuckDuckGo has finally added the ability to sync and backup your passwords, bookmarks, and favorites. This will allow users to transfer stored data between devices without the hassle of setting everything up again or sacrificing the privacy-focused approach that DuckDuckGo favors.

How does DuckDuckGo’s new sync and backup feature work?

The company says that when activated in Settings, the new feature should allow users to sync their data across “most Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone devices.” This includes data imported from other browsers such as Chrome or Firefox. You can also sync your email security settings between devices. All data will be protected with end-to-end encryption. And the best part: this feature is available now.

How to set up synchronization and backup on DuckDuckGo

To set up the new sync and backup feature, open your browser and go to Settings > Sync & Backup > Sync with Another Device , then follow the instructions. DuckDuckGo says that to use the new feature, you need to install its browser on at least two devices. You will also need to scan a QR code or manually enter a unique alphanumeric code to complete the sync.

If you’re only working with one device, you can also select Single Device Setup to save your data in case you need to sync it to another device later. And if you lose your device, you can also save the recovery PDF to a secure device, allowing you to collect your data again even if you have to change devices, bringing DuckDuckGo browser closer to the functionality offered by browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. But there is a warning: if you lose this recovery code and you don’t have another device with access to your DuckDuckGo data, you won’t be able to access it because, again, DuckDuckGo stores all your data encrypted. -end-to-end encryption.
