When Did Sony PS5 Come Out?
It may not seem like it, but the PS5 console has been missing for a couple of years now. This became known immediately after restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic began to be eased. It was a turbulent time for the world, and semiconductor supply issues made finding a PS5 nearly impossible. In fact, the shortage lasted more than a year.
Sony PlayStation 5 was released in 2020.
The release of Sony PlayStation 5 took a long time. It was announced in April 2019 and was finally launched on November 12, 2020 . Even then, it was only available in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, North America and South Korea, with the rest of the world releasing a week later.
The original PlayStation 5 came in two configurations, with both models featuring a high-speed SSD and an AMD GPU capable of playing games in 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. The flagship model came with a Blu-Ray drive and retailed for $499. The cheaper $399 model came without a disc module, and the only way to play games was to download games from the Sony PlayStation Store. Otherwise, both models are identical. Unlike Xbox, Sony decided not to release a cheaper version with lower specifications.
Sony PlayStation 5 Slim will be released in 2023.
Sony has updated the PlayStation 5 with new models on October 10, 2023. Sony and other online retailers began shipping PlayStation 5 Slim models in November 2023, three years after the original launched.
Slim is no longer a real brand like it used to be. Now Sony simply calls it PlayStation 5 (model – Slim). To avoid confusion, we’ll call it the PlayStation 5 Slim.
The new Slim models are also replacements for the Sony models released in 2020, as they have now been discontinued.
The core specs are exactly the same, right down to the CPU, GPU, and gameplay. The only difference is the outer shell and ports. PS5 Slim is 30% smaller in volume and 18% lighter. Considering how huge the original PS5 was, these changes in themselves are quite welcome. There are now two USB-C ports on the front panel, and the power and eject buttons are now located significantly further apart to help prevent accidental presses.
But in the process of making the PS5 thinner and lighter, Sony also redesigned the case. It now has a modular design, and the body is divided into two vertical halves. This has helped Sony create a system where someone who only has a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition can later buy and add a disc (which wasn’t possible before).
At launch, the PS5 Slim came bundled with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 or Spider-Man 2. The official price for the PS5 Slim without the bundle is $499, but you can purchase a PS5 with the game for $499 on Amazon. The digital version now costs $449.99 ($50 more than the previous model). Sony will sell a standalone Blu-Ray drive for $79.99. Additionally, PS5 Slim models have a true 1TB hard drive inside instead of the previous generation’s 825GB models.
PlayStation 5 Slim is available on PlayStation . You can also buy the PlayStation 5 Slim Disc and PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition on Amazon.
