How to Install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV Stick

Kodi is an excellent media system, on par with Plex and Jellyfin . It’s a free and open source app that helps you securely stream your entire media collection to any local device. But if it’s quite easy to set it up on a computer, then running it on a TV is a completely different matter.

Popular media players like Plex have apps available on all major app platforms; this does not apply to the underdog that is Cody. But don’t worry: although you can’t find Kodi on Amazon Fire TV or Amazon Fire TV Stick, we can use a workaround to ensure the app runs reliably on your TV. That’s because, at heart, the Fire TV Stick runs Android.

How to Enable Developer Mode on Amazon Fire TV Stick

This workaround is based on the Developer Mode on the Fire TV Stick, which will allow us to download and install the Kodi app from their website.

Developer Mode is a safe feature that will not affect the functionality of your Fire TV Stick. (It’s important to note, however, that you shouldn’t use this to download apps from untrusted sources.)

On the Fire TV home screen, click the Settings icon. You’ll find it at the end of the row of icons.

Here, select the My Fire TV option and go to the About section. With the device name highlighted, press the Action button seven times. Fire TV will then tell you that you are now a developer.

Go back to the My Fire TV section and you’ll see a new Developer Options menu. Go into it, select the option “Applications from unknown sources” and in the pop-up window click the “Enable” button.

Open the Developer Options menu and turn on Apps from unknown sources .

In the pop-up window, select the Enable button. Now you can freely install applications from different sources.

How to Download and Install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV Stick

Now that the outside world is open, we need a way to navigate it. And it does this through Amazon’s own Downloader app. Open the Amazon App Store, then search for and download the Downloader app.

Open the Downloader app, select the Browser option from the sidebar and enter this URL: https://kodi.tv/download .

This is the official Kodi website, so it is a reliable source. When the website opens, select the Android app. As we mentioned above, the Fire TV Stick is based on Android, so the Android app will work perfectly on Fire TV. You’ll find different versions, but the best one is the 32-bit version for Fire TV.

Once the download is complete, click the Install button. Check the permissions and click Install again to complete the installation process.

And that’s all there is to it. Kodi will appear as an app on your Fire TV’s home screen and will work just like any other app. Open the app and you will be able to connect to the Kodi app on your local network.

The best part of Kodi is its customization, so you can customize your TV’s interface just the way you like for a while. When you’re happy, all you have to do is play something.
