How to Clean a Cuisinart Coffee Maker
There are many types of coffee makers, and each provides its owner with such a valuable service. You’ll have to pay for all the caffeine with regular cleanses . If you have a Cuisinart coffee machine, here’s how to do it.
Start by descaling your Cuisinart coffee maker.
How often you descale your machine (or remove hard water and mineral deposits) depends on how often you use it. If you brew coffee every day, do it once a month. Less than that? You can wait three to six months. Luckily, the machine will tell you when to descale if it has a Clean button. If yes, it will flash when descaling is required.
First, remove the water filter and remaining water from the reservoir, then fill it with a mixture of one part distilled white vinegar and two parts water. (You can buy 128 ounces of white distilled vinegar for $3.99 at Target , so you won’t run out.) Replace it, then press and hold the “Clean” button, which will start flashing. The machine will clean, then beep five times and turn off. Empty the pot, refill the reservoir with water and run the normal cycle as if you were making coffee. Be sure to place a pan or other container underneath to catch all the water. After rinsing, replace the water filter and everything will be fine.
If you don’t have a “Clean” button, simply run the vinegar and water solution through a manual brew cycle. If you want the most effective descaling, turn off the machine halfway through and let the solution sit there for an hour, turn it back on and let the cycle complete. After this, rinse with clean water.
Cleaning your Cuisinart Machine
Every time you use your coffee machine, you should remove any old coffee grounds and throw them away, then wash the pot with warm, soapy water. Try harder once a month, but be sure to unplug it first. The filter basket can be washed in warm soapy water or placed on the top rack of the dishwasher. While washing, use a damp cloth to wipe the area underneath where it usually sits, picking up coffee grounds and other dirt. Wipe down the machine body, being careful not to spill water on the sander motors or other electrical parts. Do not immerse any parts of the machine in water. Just use a fabric like Scotch-Brite from Target ($3.99).
Once the carafe and filter are washed and dried and the machine is no longer wet, put it all back together and start making coffee.
