The Latest MacBook Air M2 Is Now $300 Off
It’s time to upgrade your laptop: Apple’s newest and most portable computer, the M2 MacBook Air , is currently on sale at its lowest price yet. Right now. You can get the 15-inch model for $999 (down from $1,299) at Best Buy with a $300 discount. After looking at the price compression tools, I can say that this is the lowest price achieved since its release last summer, even better than October’s Prime Day and Black Friday prices .
While the M2 MacBook Air may be Apple’s best ultraportable laptop, it’s not necessarily the right choice for everyone, as Lifehacker senior technology editor Jake Peterson noted in his review of the machine . It’s essentially a larger version of the 13-inch MacBook Air , and it’s a great buy if you really need the extra screen. As Jake noted:
It has the same design language, M2 chip with octa-core CPU and 10-core GPU with up to 24GB of memory, two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports (which seems a little low for a 15-inch machine), MagSafe charging port, Web -1080p camera and display with P3 color gamut and up to 500 nits brightness. It even has the same claimed battery life of 18 hours thanks to a larger battery to power the larger display.
The Air only comes with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, which is roughly the same memory and storage specs you’ll find in a 2023 computer. Again, this may suit your use: after all, the M2 is powerful, and its design means you can do a lot with a little RAM. But someday the 8GB RAM will stop working and you won’t be able to upgrade the memory yourself. The same goes for storage: if you spend your entire life in the cloud, 256GB might be enough. But if you store any photos, videos, or other large files on your Mac, you’ll end up having to use an external drive permanently connected to your computer, or you’ll have to constantly manage the storage until you sell the computer.
The limitations of the M2 MacBook Air are obvious: the RAM and storage aren’t as good as they could be. The good news is that the upgraded version with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is also $300 off and is currently $1,399 (originally $1,699), making upgrading to the more powerful version of this laptop less painful.
Rumors suggest that the reason the MacBook Air and iPad Air are getting better discounts now is because Apple is planning to release a new batch of iPad Air and MacBook Air in March . The latter is expected to include Apple’s new M3 chip in both the 13- and 15-inch models. If you’re always on the lookout for the latest Apple products, it might be worth the wait. Otherwise, now is the time to take advantage of Apple’s great discount. If you’re looking for a great deal from Apple, you’re unlikely to find a better deal any time soon.
