Highlights From CES Media Days
CES hasn’t even officially started yet, but news and announcements are pouring in in full force. As some 4,000 exhibitors, large and small, try to make their mark this week, some key stories have already broken through the noise. Here’s what’s on our radar:
Apple Vision Pro is officially available for pre-order
Apple doesn’t even show up at CES, and yet they know how to make a splash at CES . The company said Monday that the Vision Pro will be available for purchase starting February 2, but you can pre-order it on January 19.
LG Transparent OLED TV
One of the highlights of today’s event was LG’s transparent OLED TV , appropriately named OLED T. This TV can be used like any other when you want to watch shows and movies, but it has a “curtain” that lifts up to reveal a transparent display.
It’s a neat concept: you could place the OLED T in front of a window, for example, so during the day you can see through it and see your view, and at night you can switch it back to OLED mode.
LG announces smart robot center
Another great announcement from LG concerns the ” AI Agent “, which is basically a cute robot. This little robot is actually an interactive smart hub that can analyze your home and adjust your smart devices accordingly. However, this wasn’t the only AI robot unveiled today…
Samsung presents Ballie
Bally , first introduced at CES 2020, is back. Samsung has come up with a new design for its AI-powered smart hub robot that looks a bit like a tennis ball on wheels. Honestly, it’s quite adorable and it has a projector. Well done, Samsung.
AMD processors for “extreme games”
AMD will introduce new desktop processors and GPUs this week. First up is the Ryzen 7 8700G with eight cores, 16 threads, 24MB of cache and integrated Radeon 780M graphics. Next up is the mid-range Ryzen 5 8600G with six cores, 12 threads, 22MB cache and integrated Radeon 760M graphics. Speaking of graphics, the new AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT offers 1080p gaming for under $350.
Nvidia “Super” video cards
Nvidia has some powerful GPUs for everyone who has been finding graphics card prices astronomical lately. The Nvidia RTX 4070 Super goes on sale on January 17th for just $599. Nvidia is also offering more bang for your buck in the form of the RTX 4080 Super and RTX 4070 Ti Super, which will be available towards the end of January for $999 and $799 respectively. You can learn more about these cards from our article here .
Audio developments at CES
While everyone and their mom is talking about AI this week, one area that’s getting a lot of attention is audio . Samsung has a photo frame that’s actually a speaker; Mirai made the speaker curved to make dialogue easier to hear; Anker introduced the first waterproof open-back headphones; The Soundblade has a speaker that can be placed under your monitor; and Mymanu has headphones with offline translation, just to name a few.
This is only part of the news at the moment and only a small part of what will happen next. Stay tuned for more coverage from CES this week.
