Everything Included in the Latest Pixel Security Update
If you bought a Pixel phone in the last couple of years, you’ll need to install a new security update. On Wednesday, January 3, Google released the January security patch for supported Pixel smartphones as well as Pixel tablets, including some useful bug fixes and important security fixes.
What’s in this latest Pixel update?
First, bug fixes. The January security patch fixes four bugs that you may have encountered in the previous version of Android 14:
Camera

Fix for users experiencing camera crashes under certain conditions.
User interface

Fixed an issue that resulted in users experiencing a flashing black screen when playing videos under certain conditions.

Fixed an issue that prevented users from exiting the installation wizard under certain conditions.

Fixed an issue that caused the Home screen wallpaper to appear black under certain conditions.
Additionally, this update fixes 11 security vulnerabilities in Android: five in the framework (the platform on which apps are built), five in the system (Android OS), and one in Google Play system updates.

How to install the January security patch on your Pixel
If you have a Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro, you can simply tell Google Assistant to “Update my phone now.” When you see a notification asking you to update, open it, then click the update button.
Alternatively, go to Settings > System > System Update , then follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the latest patch.
