This year’s newest holiday decorating hack is so simple you’ll be surprised you haven’t done it your entire life: use a shower curtain rod to hang your holiday lights. This tip has been all over Instagram and TikTok for the past few weeks, so we tried it out at my home and turned a boring gray kitchen window into an expression of Christmas cheer—and we didn’t have to cut any holes. in the wall to do this.

I’ve looked at a few online tutorials on this and disagree with them on the main point: they usually say you should decorate the Christmas post and then screw it to the doorway. Cheap shower curtain rods aren’t very durable and you’ll be sad if they fall after you put them up, plus it’ll be difficult to screw them into place while they’re fully decorated.
