Use Book Light for Night Diaper Change
One thing about babies is that they don’t get their diapers dirty only during the day when everyone is awake, awake and ready to get to work. You’re also going to be making a lot of overnight changes, and you’ll need to cover the situation at least enough to make sure you’re doing a decent job – but not enough to shock everyone’s system.
One of our Facebook group Offspring came up with a solution you can reproduce in your own home: get that soft glow you want with a small rechargeable book lamp. Jennifer tells me: “My three month old baby sleeps in his bassinet in our bedroom and I can’t worry about carrying him to the nursery in the middle of the night. So I started to change diapers on the bed, but I was disappointed that I could not see well what I was doing. Book light solved my problem. “
Here’s her setup, in which she attaches her book lamp to the shower stall she uses to store diapers, napkins, and other essentials:
She attached the lantern to the carrycot because the sides of the carrycot itself were too wide for a clip, but you might be looking for a place to fix it right next to the carrycot or the changing area itself.
If you decide to go this route and want to go for broke, you might consider buying a spare book light and keeping it close at hand on your bedside table for that awkward moment when the battery runs out on the first. They will not go to waste: in the end, you will not be tired, and reading real books, as before, will become a business again, and you and your partner (or, after all, the child you are changing) can turn these lights into your intended use.
