Week of Evil: How to Watch Free Movies and TV Shows Using a VPN
Welcome to Evil Week , our annual dive into all the slightly sketchy life hacks that we usually refrain from recommending. Want to snag free drinks, play challenging mind games, or launder some money? We have all the information we need to successfully engage in questionable behavior.
It’s frustrating when you discover that the show or movie you want to watch is available on the service you subscribe to, but only in a different country or region, especially when the official decision is to subscribe to another service instead. This is where a VPN comes to the rescue.
Perhaps you’re already a Netflix subscriber and want to watch The Office in the US, but don’t want to pay for NBC’s Peacock streaming app. Instead, you can use a VPN to hide your location and look like you’re watching from Canada, where The Office is still available on Netflix. While you can also use a VPN and BitTorrent client to piracy movies, we won’t cover that in this post. This is an evil week, not an illegal week.
Choose a VPN
The most important step is to get a VPN. If you already have a reliable VPN, then great! You’ve come most of the way. For those who don’t, we can help. While we have a detailed guide to finding a reliable VPN , the most basic recommendations are:
- Choose a paid VPN. Don’t use free VPNs. It is either a hyped scam, dangerous malware, or simply unreliable and unable to keep you safe.
- Make sure it’s a registry-free VPN based in a country or region that doesn’t give government agencies access to its data.
- The VPN should allow you to choose proxy servers in the country or region(s) in which you want to watch exclusive content.
- (Optional) If you plan to watch videos on mobile devices, make sure the VPN offers a smartphone app.
These are the minimum requirements for a decent VPN. There are additional features and requirements that we would suggest if you are looking for the highest possible security and anonymity with a VPN, such as connection kill switches and high-level connection encryption, but any VPN that meets the above criteria is sufficient to watch free movies. and television through streaming sites.
Find something to watch
Speaking of streaming sites, once you have your VPN installed and ready, the next step is to find content to watch.
If you are already subscribed to services like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc., you can use a VPN to access content available in other regions through these apps . However, since the whole point is to find and watch free content using a VPN, we only suggest signing up for a paid streaming service if you’re trying to watch content that’s exclusive to a specific app. Otherwise, there are several streaming apps and websites that are completely free or at least offer an ad-supported free tier, such as:
To find out what region-specific content is available on these streaming services, first make sure your VPN is turned on, and then make sure your connection location is set to the country whose content you want to access. This will vary between VPN apps, but it’s usually a simple toggle or selection from the VPN’s main menu. If you can’t find the setting you need, check the VPN FAQ.
With your VPN enabled and a proxy connection established, you can now open one of the above streaming websites in your web browser of choice and then scroll through the library until you find what you want to watch, or switch to another connection location to watch , which is also available in other regions. It really is that simple and you can do it using any streaming service.
