Use These Movie Color Palettes to Decorate Your Home
Have you ever watched a movie and found yourself drawn to the aesthetics of a particular set or scene – even if you don’t really care about the movie itself? If so, then you are not alone. Kalki Janardhanan, a movie enthusiast, maintains an Instagram account called Color Palette Cinema in which he takes a specific scene from a movie and highlights different color combinations by providing a color palette at the bottom of each post. Here’s what you need to know about this project and how you can use these color schemes to decorate your own home.
How to use movie color palettes in your own home
In a recent interview with My Modern Met, Janardhanan explained his belief that “color can influence us psychologically, often without our knowledge.” To date, his Color Palette Cinema Instagram account has 1,138 posts and over 1.6 million followers, indicating an interest in how color can be used to influence mood. (Or just people who enjoy looking at interesting images and designs.)
“I love every aspect of filmmaking and the choice of color palette is one of them, ” Janardhanan told My Modern Met . “I love how colors have a big impact on how we perceive things, and I love how filmmakers use this tool to convey emotion, set tone, and more.”
So how does Janardhanan bring these color palettes together? According to My Modern Met, he starts by picking a still image from the movie, extracts 10 important colors from the scene, and then arranges them in a row below the image.
To use these color schemes in your own home , start by choosing one that you are not only interested in, but that you really enjoy living. This does not mean that all walls have to be exceptionally bright colors: you can always choose a more neutral wall color from the palette, and then use furniture, art, and other accents to add other shades to the scene.
