Which States Have Extended Their Tax Deadlines?
Earlier this week, the IRS announced that the tax filing deadline had been pushed back to May 17. In response, many states have followed suit and extended their deadlines, however some are still April 15th or may have very different dates. … To help you keep track of events, we’ve compiled dates for all 50 states as they are.
- Alabama: Unlike the IRS, Alabama grants all taxpayers an automatic six-month extension to file a no-penalty claim after the April 15, 2021 deadline.
- Alaska: There is no income tax in Alaska.
- Arizona: The deadline is still April 15 for government taxes, but the Arizona Department of Revenue says S will consider expanding.
- Arkansas: The deadline for state taxes is still April 15, but the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration says it will consider an extension.
- California: State tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Colorado: Government tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Connecticut: Government tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Delaware: Government tax deadline remains unchanged at April 30.
- Florida: Florida has no state income tax.
- Georgia: deadline still April 15th.
- Hawaii: Residents still need to file Hawaii State Form N-11 by April 20, but you can also apply for a six month extension.
- Idaho: Government tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Illinois: State tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Indiana: The deadline is April 15th.
- Iowa: The state tax deadline is April 30, although it looks like it will soon be extended.
- Kansas: The deadline for state taxes is April 15, although it looks like an extension is imminent , presumably until May 17.
- Kentucky: Government tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Louisiana: Government tax deadline extended to June 15th.
- Maine: The government tax deadline has been extended to May 17.
- Maryland: State tax deadline extended to July 15.
- Massachusetts: The deadline for government taxes is expected to be extended to May 17th.
- Michigan: Deadline is April 15th.
- Minnesota: Government tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Mississippi: Deadline is April 15th.
- Missouri: State tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Montana: The deadline for paying government taxes has been extended until May 17.
- Nebraska: Deadline still April 15th.
- Nevada: There is no government income tax in Nevada.
- New Hampshire: There is no state income tax in New Hampshire.
- New Jersey: Deadline is still April 15, although there is talk of agreeing to a federal deadline of May 17.
- New Mexico: State tax deadline extended to May 17.
- New York: State tax deadline extended to May 17.
- North Carolina: State tax deadline extended to May 17.
- North Dakota: Government tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Ohio: The deadline is still April 15th, although it could be extended .
- Oklahoma: Government tax deadline extended to June 15.
- Oregon: Government tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Pennsylvania: Government tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Rhode Island: Deadline is still April 15th, although a possible extension will be announced soon .
- South Carolina: State tax deadline extended to May 17.
- South Dakota: South Dakota has no state income tax.
- Tennessee: Tennessee has no state income tax.
- Texas: There is no state income tax in Texas.
- Utah: Government tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Vermont: State tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Virginia: The state tax deadline is May 17.
- Washington: There is no state income tax in Washington.
- West Virginia: Government tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Wisconsin: State tax deadline extended to May 17.
- Wyoming: Wyoming has no state income tax.
