How to Quickly Compress Video on Android

Video captured on a current generation smartphone can be truly breathtaking: shooting fully stabilized 4K video at 60fps on a device that can fit in a shirt pocket still feels like science fiction. That is, until your friend asks, “Can you send me this video?” and you find yourself dealing with a file large enough to strangle (metaphorically) a horse. This is where compression comes in.

Luckily, there are apps and websites that allow Android users to quickly and easily compress files without much loss in image quality, so you can share videos with anyone, anytime. Here’s how to do it.

How to quickly compress video on Android

The multitude of video compressors available for Android can be confusing. There are apps filled with pop-up ads and last-minute paid updates, or apps that don’t work as well as others. In our testing, we found the Panda app to be the sweet spot. Ads are not intrusive, compression is fast and works well, and most importantly, the interface is quite convenient.

The app has good settings for compressing videos for emailing (less than 25MB) and configuring them for uploading to social networks like Facebook.

The workflow of the application is simple. Give the app access to all media files and select the videos you want to compress. Click the “Next” button and choose a compression style. You can choose one of the presets like “Email” or “Facebook” or, if you want to really compress the file, you can choose your own resolution. Then click the Compress button and your result will be automatically saved in your Camera Roll folder.

How to compress android video using a website

If the video is on your computer or you don’t want to download any applications, you can use the website to convert the video. Clideo is a trusted video conversion site that encrypts your video so no one can access your personal data.

The free plan lets you compress videos up to 500MB in size. Click the Upload File button, select a video, and let the website do the rest. Since compression occurs on the server side, the resulting file will have to wait a couple of minutes. Once compression is complete, click the Download button.
