How to Fix Controller Disconnect Error on Xbox Series X / S
Microsoft is finally fixing the annoying controller disconnect bug that has plagued the Xbox Series X / S since launch, and the fix is included in the March 2021 firmware update that launches this week. Microsoft does not explicitly mention bug fixes in its announcement post , but Xbox Program Management Director Jason Ronald confirmed via Twitter that the patch “also fixes many of the controller outages reported by players.”
If you are one of the many players facing this issue, be sure to install the March 2021 firmware update right away. To manually update your Xbox Series X / S:
- Press the Xbox button on your controller to bring up the guide menu.
- Go to Profile & System> Settings> System> Updates.
- Select “Console update available” to download the new version. If you see the message, “Update console is not available”, it means that your Xbox is already running the latest firmware version.
If you want your Xbox to automatically download future updates as soon as they’re ready, turn on Keep my console up to date in the Updates menu as well. This ensures that you get all the new features and important bug fixes as soon as possible. as far as it’s possible.
While the disconnect bug fix is an important part of the March Xbox Series X / S firmware patch, it’s worth installing even if you’ve gotten rid of controller connection issues.
