What’s New on Netflix in June 2023

A lot of people are rightfully angry at Netflix for cracking down on password leaks , or still holding grudges over the repeal of GLOW , but lest they think their actions won’t make us happy, I’d like to take this moment to thank them for raising Nimona . from the dead after being unfairly written off by Disney in 2021 .

Based on the acclaimed webcomic-turned-graphic novel byN. D. Stevenson , this whimsical animated feature follows a titular young werewolf, the eager sidekick of the not-so-villainous villain Lord Blackheart, who faces the noble but vain Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin, who is tasked with with saving the world in a futuristic fantasy kingdom. The comic is hard to define – is it science fiction? Fantasy? Comedy? Romance? And rich in LGBTQ themes, a completely unique creature… that’s why it was so discouraging when it fell victim to the corporate merger between Fox and Disney. Thankfully, Netflix stepped in to save the day — a rare decision made by a streamer last year that didn’t piss off a lot of people — by loosening their wallets and ending the film, which premieres on June 30.

Also this month, a show that I thought a quick reveal of real reality might have turned out to be unnecessary. Yes, Black Mirror is returning for a sixth season sometime in June, and I can’t wait to see how the series manages to make fun of a world that is already quickly overshadowed by the over-the-top predictions made by only a few. short years ago.

Also arriving for a busy month is Netflix: Extraction 2 (June 16), Chris Hemsworth’s mega-budget 2020 action movie sequel that’s definitely the real movie people have been watching; the fourth season of the delightful coming-of-age series produced by Mindy Kaling, Never Me Never (June 8); Amy Schumer’s new comedy special (June 13); and the first half of the third season of The Witcher , the last to feature star Henry Cavill .

Here’s everything else coming to Netflix in June. (In case you’re wondering, the two-letter codes in parentheses after some of the titles are meant to indicate their country of origin – Netflix used little emoji flags when they sent out their lists of titles, but this month they’re doing that.)
