Customizable Sports in Apple News and Everything Else in IOS 16.5

Apple will likely announce iOS 17 next month , including previously announced accessibility improvements , such as the ability to add your own voice to your iPhone. However, it’s only May now, so we’ll have to wait a bit for Apple’s next big update. In the meantime, we can dive into the smaller iOS 16.5 that Apple just released for the iPhone.

Apple released iOS 16.5 on Thursday, May 18 at 1:00 pm, the usual time for software updates to be released. The company has been testing the update for almost two months, releasing the first beta to iOS developers back on May 28.

Now that it’s here, we can see that it’s not a particularly big update. This isn’t all that surprising considering iOS 17 is just around the corner. It’s also the fifth “major” update to iOS 16 since it launched, so there’s not much to build on before completely switching to a different version of iOS.

New features and changes in iOS 16.5

However, there are new features and changes worth talking about here. According to Apple’s release notes, iOS 16.5 introduces a new Pride Celebration lock screen wallpaper for Pride Month. It matches the new Pride Edition Sport Band for Apple Watch announced earlier this month.

You’ll find two more new features in Apple News. First up are the new Sports tabs, which you can use to view stories, scores, and more related to your favorite sports teams and games. For other sports news, the My Sports scorecards and schedule in Apple News will display game pages with more details about the games you follow.

The update also fixes some known bugs in previous versions of iOS, such as an issue that could cause Spotlight to stop working, an issue that could cause the CarPlay Podcasts app to not load content, and a Screen Time bug that could cause settings to reset or not sync between devices. .

This update likely fixes security flaws as well, but Apple hasn’t updated its security updates page yet to reflect the changes. Perhaps the security fixes are the same as we saw in the earlier Rapid Security Response update, Apple’s new security update solution. With Rapid Security Response, a company can release security patches without first fully updating iOS. If so, the goal would be to fix devices that do not have this security response installed.

How to install iOS 16.5 on your iPhone

You can install iOS 16.5 on your iPhone as long as it is compatible with iOS 16 . If so, go to Settings > General > Software Update . When iOS 16.5 arrives, click Download and Install and follow the on-screen instructions to install the update on your iPhone.

If you have automatic updates enabled, the update will install on its own. However, due to the way Apple designed this feature, it can take several weeks for the update to install . The fastest way to install iOS 16.5 is to do it yourself.
